The Nacimiento Dam Spillway Modification Project construction is on schedule and will commence on April 1, 2008, pending final approvals from FERC/DSOD. Regarding reservoir levels, they are required by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the State’s Department of Water Resources, Division of Safety of Dams to maintain a maximum reservoir elevation of 770 feet during the first construction season (summer 2008) and 764 feet during the second in 2009 (the maximum reservoir elevation at the Spillway is 800 feet). They are also coordinating their operations with the contractor’s schedule, which has yet to be finalized. The goal is to maximize reservoir elevations during construction while in compliance with the regulatory agencies and in consideration of workers’ safety while completing modifications in the Spillway structure itself.
In regards to
SLO
County’s Water Project, all work within the reservoir embankment will be done under water where necessary. They are not accommodating this construction effort by changing the release schedule. They are required, by FERC/DSOD, to abide by the rule curve currently in place.
